MUSIC & CHOIR AT UNION CHURCH
The
Choir at the Union Church of Pocantico Hills comprises a group of
volunteers who furnish our worship with music supporting the sermon
topic and appointed scriptural lessons. Our repertoire embraces a
variety of musical styles, reflecting the diverse background of parish
members. It is not unusual to hear medieval selections, contemporary
anthems, and excerpts from classical choral literature in the context
of our musical worship.
Choir
members also provide solos and ensembles for our services during July
and August, as well as seasonal music before the Christmas services.
We
do not view our preparation as a drain upon our time, but rather as a
sincere effort to achieve excellence together in the glorification of
God. This attitude, perhaps rare in church choirs today, has always
been a hallmark at the Union Church.
Choir
rehearsals are normally held on Wednesdays at 8:00pm. Anyone interested
in the activities of our choir should contact Samuel Chapin, Music
Director at the Church.
Throughout
the year, the Church hosts concerts under the auspices of the Fine Arts
Committee. These concerts are normally presented in November and March,
and information about the series may be obtained by contacting the
Church Office.
